Wayfinding

We see wayfinding as entirely entwined with planning. By understanding the journeys taken through the station or terminal, we can anticipate the wayfinding needs of passengers at every step of the way.

Complexity of movement is inevitable in large transport facilities, in particular airport terminals and intermodal transport hubs; different user groups have unique journeys through the facility, moving between different points of origin and destination and partaking in different activities along the way, from ticketing to boarding to shopping and dining. Even when the terminal is designed with “intuitive wayfinding” as a guiding architectural principle, such designs usually cater only to the predominant flows, and need to be augmented with a good wayfinding system catering to a wide range of users and journeys.

Our integrated approach to planning and wayfinding allows us to develop message and signage plans which support both easy passenger navigation and the optimal use of facilities.
